I think 2016 will go down as one of the most surprising years in our country’s history. My bet is that the first half of 2017 will be exciting and history making as well. My question is where we’ll go the second half. Here are my top 10 predictions for 2017 along with a review of my 2016 predictions with 6 out of 10 being wrong.
While everyone is predicting substantially higher oil prices due to the OPEC agreement, I say oil will not hold above $60 per barrel for the year.
Environmental groups will use the legal system to stall most energy initiatives
The government and private sector will join forces creating technical vocational training
Interest rates will rise by less than 1%
The country’s deficit will continue to grow
We will not have a trade war
Stocks will end flat to down for the year
Brick and mortar retail square footage will begin shrinking
Gold will continue to climb
After several years of flat to declining prices, diamonds will begin to rise
Listed below were my 2016 Predictions. Don't worry, I’m not quitting my day job!
Oil Prices will break and hold well below $40 per barrel for the year
That will result in a debt crises for weaker OPEC countries .
Donald Trump will not get the Republican nomination.
Hillary Clinton will get the Democrat nomination
Hillary Clinton will win the 2016 election
Interest rates, while slightly higher, will remain historically low.
Stocks will end the year 6% higher
The dollar will reach parity with the euro
Diamond prices will increase at least 5%
Gold will FINALLY bottom
Jewelry Repair and Restoration
It’s that time of year again! Time to bring in your jewelry, have it cleaned and inspected to make sure it’s still in great shape. It may look fine with the naked eye, but our jewelers can tell if the metal has thinned or broken, therefor putting your jewelry at risk. Don’t wait until you look down and see that your diamond is missing or your bracelet is no longer on your wrist. At Medlars, a standard cleaning and inspection is free of charge*, so what are you waiting for?
If the jewelry item turns out to be so worn that it needs to be overhauled, that’s okay too. Medlars performs many jewelry restorations and can likely restore your worn out or damaged pieces to their original beauty. You may even have some heritage pieces that have been passed down that you are afraid to wear. Well, what happiness do they bring you in that jewelry box? Bring them in, have them restored and wear them again. We love to see our customers smile.
If you are worried about security, you can rest assured that your jewelry is safe and secure in the hands of our experienced jewelers. If your birthday is in January, your birthstone is said to symbolize passion and unconditional love. Your birthstone is garnet, which dates to ancient Egypt where pieces were found entombed with the wearer so that they could continue wearing it in the afterlife. The peak of garnet purchasing was in the 1800’s and why many Victorian items are adorned with garnet.
The most commonly used garnet is red, but it is found in many colors including orange, yellow, green, purple, brown, blue, black, pink and colorless. Tsavorite is a variety of garnet green. It was discovered in the mountains of Northeast Tanzania. It is a very intense color with high transparency. It is very rare and beautiful.
Medlars has a great selection of Garnet including a few Tsavorite pieces. Click HERE to see.
